Stairway to Festive Heaven

A seriously spruced up stairwell is one of the biggest trends for Christmas 2021, offering festive impact without busting the budget. And while florists would charge a small fortune to set up your stairwell in style, you can decorate yours yourself, easily and affordably.

A simple and affordable garland acts as the perfect foundation for this glorious look. Simply wind it in and out your banister from top to bottom to affix. Next, it’s time to get pimping! I love to use a mixture of blousy and trailing blooms for ultimate impact. On my dream stairwell, we used pom-pom hydrangea heads, festively fragrant eucalyptus and beautiful gypsophila sprayed in turquoise, purple, silver and gold.

For a cute and quirky vignette Advent vignette, I applied gold applique numbers to the stairs bell jars filled with gold spray painted snow creatures added a tiny touch of winter wonder, although do take care to place safely. For a final finishing touch, I stacked Christmas presents in the shape of a tree on a beautifully upholstered bench – a quick and easy touch that’s oh-so impactful!

Diversity Advent Window

Christmas offers a great chance to celebrate diversity, so why not show your colours with a beautifully inclusive advent window tree? This year, I’m embracing all of the colours of the rainbow with décor in a spectrum of hot hues as well as simple touches that send a powerful message.

A perfect crafting project for kids, all you need is a foraged branch, sprayed in a colour of your choice and festive décor which speaks to the importance of inclusion. I picked out meaningful messages on Christmas cards and used them to decorate the tree too as a lovely way to reinforce the importance of positive, inclusive and embracing sentiments with my young family.

Who said you had to be bundled indoors to enjoy the festivities? Weather permitting, a Christmas in the garden will create a wonderfully unique atmosphere and it’s also a great way to keep the air circulating in these post COVID times. For a statement look, suspend a spray-painted branch above your table using a simple table clamp. You can then go wild with dangling festive décor, baubles, battery powered fairy lights and more.

For an alternative take on classic red and green, you can’t go wrong with cerise and turquoise which come from similar colour families but look a bit more contemporary, so look out for candles and décor in these bold colour pop tones. Then add lashings of glamour with gold cutlery, spotty scalloped dinnerware, tea lights aplenty and cosy sheepskins for every chair.

Christmas is a time to eat, drink and be merry. To make serving easier, why not style up a potting bench as a makeshift Christmas cocktail bar? The perfect plinth for tipples and nibbles, you can style yours up to create a cute and quirky vignette. For an affordable and fun touch, I spray painted welly boots in silver and gold and used them as a vessel for festive blooms, interspersed with cocktail shakers, glassware, cake stands and more. Cheers to that and have a very Merry Christmas!

Get Set For Guests

Spare room styling packed full of details

Treating visitors to a spare room to remember will make Christmas 2021 all-the-more special. This year, I’m going all out with a mantel garland decked with beautiful baubles, candles aplenty and tons of glorious greenery. Creating that ‘boutique hotel’ experience makes a lovely touch, and you don’t need much to make it memorable.

Try styling a golden drinks trolley with a bottle of fizz and some festive glassware or pick up a festive tray and miniature espresso cups that will be perfect for a cosy coffee on Christmas morning, making you the host with the most! For a fun touch, fill a stocking with snow white heather.

When the party’s over, you can stow your decor in style. Baskets and decorative boxes are the perfect hideaway for baubles, lights and more. Choosing a festive design is a great way to make your stash easy identifiable.
