How to Stay Happy at Home

Two plates are set and ready for food on a light tan table in the sunlight.

With many of us spending more time than ever at home over the last year, styling our spaces for comfort, productivity and well-being has never been more important – but it’s not always easy to know where to start. The good news is that small updates can make a massive mood-boosting difference.

Looking to create your own happy space? Here Wayfair’s European Resident Style Advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill, shares the top ways that customers have been making their homes work for them:

Happy Place: Comfort is Key

Wayfair shoppers are looking for different ways to bring a little comfort home. We’ve seen a surge in searches for pastel colours, with fresh, light and hopeful mint tones proving to be the big winners. We’re also noticing a huge uptick in searches for items that cocoon us with a spike in searches for blankets despite the warmer spring weather, including weighted blankets which are designed to ease anxiety and promote feelings of calm.

Happy Place: Family Fun

With schools out (and then in and then out), keeping kids entertained is key: Garden playhouses are proving to be the perfect home-from-home as we strive to create space for kids (and adults) to enjoy a much-needed break. Garden games are also on the rise with happiness-inducing trampolines proving to be the most popular.

Happy Place: The Great Escape

Spending more time at home means that cultivating that green patch has never been more important and we’ve seen a huge appetite for garden leisure picks as customers try to create a calming space away from the hustle and bustle of the house. Searches for sheds have also surged as customers flock to create a makeshift space for home offices, art studios and more and vertical gardens are also proving hugely popular as we get green fingered in even the smallest outdoor spaces.

Happy Place: The Power of the Plant

Bringing a little greenery home is one of the easiest ways to promote feelings of serenity and faux plants have been a huge hit with customers over the last year, injecting that feeling of nature even if rural holidays are off the cards for now.

Happy Place: Colour Me Happy

Bringing happy hues home is another new go-to. Over the last year, we’ve seen an uptick in searches for bold bright decor across cushions, soft furnishings, accents and more and more customers opt for affordable ways to create a quick and easy refresh.
